Un fotolibro no es un mero contenedor de fotografías. El fotolibro es el agente mediador entre el autor, las imágenes de la serie fotográfica y el espectador. En todo fotolibro existe la posibilidad de un encuentro emocional con la singularidad del acontecimiento fotográfico. Mediante los atributos físicos del objeto-libro, el lector accede a una experiencia táctil y visual única y personal que condiciona su relación con la obra de arte. La primera respuesta siempre ha de ser emocional: el objeto ha de ser mirado, tocado, examinado y poseído físicamente en un proceso previo a la asimilación intelectual.

El objetivo y compromiso del proyecto colaborativo 4Compases/4Bars es una publicación a beneficio de Musicians Without Borders, y la maqueta es el punto de partida necesario para cualquier estrategia artística y editorial. En un proyecto en el que cada díptico funciona como una entidad autónoma, el reto de la edición consiste en investigar de que forma se puede crear ese espacio donde se produzca el encuentro estético y emocional entre la obra de arte y el espectador.

Como espectador, puedes explorar la maqueta virtual del fotolibro, hojear tranquilamente sus páginas, contemplar las fotografías y examinar las partituras que las acompañan, intentar adivinar como sonarían esos 4 compases inspirados en las imágenes. Incluso sin saber música, descubrirás como el trazo espontáneo de la grafía musical o las anotaciones dinámicas hechas por el compositor en la partitura revelan sutiles matices en los que palpita el alma de esa música callada que escuchas con la mirada.

Finalmente, en el montaje de video promocional que se incluye mas abajo te podrás asomar a la maqueta física del libro que hemos contruido, mientras escuchas un arreglo de los 4 compases del compositor Brais González.

A photobook is not a mere container for photographs. The photobook is the mediating agent between the author, the images of the photographic series and the viewer. Through the physical attributes of the book-object, the reader gains access to a unique and personal tactile and visual experience that conditions his or her relationship with the work of art. The aim and commitment of the collaborative project 4Compases/4Bars is a publication for the benefit of Musicians Without Borders, and the model is the necessary starting point for any artistic and editorial strategy. In a project where each diptych functions as an autonomous entity, the challenge of the edition is to investigate how to create a space where the aesthetic and emotional encounter between the artwork and the viewer can take place.

As a spectator, you can explore the virtual mock-up of the photobook, browse through its pages, contemplate the photographs and examine the scores that accompany them, try to guess what those 4 bars inspired by the images would sound like. Even if you don’t know music, you will discover how the spontaneous stroke of the musical handwriting or the dynamic annotations made by the composer on the score reveal subtle nuances in which the soul of that silent music that you are listening to with your eyes beats.
